PLATFORM EXTENSIBILITY

Platform extensibility is the ability to easily extend the software platform without having to modify its original code base.

The Ocean software development framework allows you to do just that. This open system enables software developers to create and deploy plug-ins to extend the Schlumberger E&P software platforms.

From the outset, Ocean’s goal has been to deliver a unified environment and framework for rapid development and deployment of software to solve O&G challenges. In 2006 the Ocean framework for Petrel was released and quickly earned distinction in the industry as the unchallenged leading extensibility offering in the E&P software market by providing the fastest way to deliver and deploy software. A decade later, the Ocean framework’s ecosystem has produced hundreds of commercial and internal plug-ins and hundreds of new workflows and functionalities.

Building on the success of the Ocean framework for Petrel, the extensibility strategy has been extended to all Schlumberger platforms. In addition to the Petrel platform, it now includes the Studio E&P knowledge environment and Techlog wellbore software platform.

The Ocean framework introduces tightly integrated workflows that share a common user interface and operate within the specific platform. The Ocean development framework is the next generation of well-known commercial software development kits (SDKs), which have been available for years in the industry but that have not achieved the success of the Ocean framework.
